Dr. Smith is a board-certified and fellowship-trained interventional pain specialist, receiving the highest level of training available within the specialty. He specializes in utilizing a multidisciplinary and comprehensive approach in creating treatment plans for patients suffering from chronic pain.

Dr. Smith was born near Zion National Park and raised in the Seattle area. He served a mission in Brazil in a beautiful area called Florianópolis. He then graduated from BYU Idaho, where he met his wife. They left for Missouri where he attended medical school at Kirksville College of osteopathic medicine. He went on to complete his residency in anesthesiology and was chosen as the chief resident in Kansas City. He completed his academic training with a fellowship at the University of California at Davis, a national center of excellence for the study of chronic pain. His particular interests lie with spinal cord and peripheral nerve stimulation, SI joint fusion, and anything else that can assist with difficult pain problems.

He is very interested in improving awareness for the treatments that are available for chronic pain as well as finding methods to help patients reduce or omit the use of opioid medications for chronic pain. He has four wonderful children who take all of his attention outside of his work, and feels blessed that they are still willing to ski with him.
